THE EQUIPMENT

Louis Dallara's Nature Photography Equipment

Louis's works with all digital equipment to help maintain flexibility and portability for traveling deep into the back country. He uses a variety of Nikon lenses for his Nikon cameras, including a Nikkor 12-24 mm zoom f/4 G IF AF-S DX , Nikkor 50 mm f1.4D AF, Nikkor Micro 60 mm f/2.8 AF macro, Nikkor 18-70 mm Zoom f/3.5-4.5G IF AF-S DX, 24-120 mm f3.5D zoom, a 70-200 mm f2.8G VR zoom, and a Nikkor Teleconverter TC-17E II. His cameras include a Nikon D300, D200, D2h, and an CP5700, and he also has a Nikon SB-800 electronic TTL flash. A set of Kenko extension tubes help out for close-up photography.

To occasionally enhance the lighting of a scene, Louis uses various glass Singh-Ray filters with a Cokin P filter system. His filters include a color intensifier, a green intensifier, a warming filter, and a number of graduated neutral density filters. He also carries a polarizing filter, as well as a warming polarizer and a color intensifying polarizer.

Practically all of Louis's photographs are taken with the camera on a tripod. He uses his #2228 Explorer Gitzo Mountaineer carbon fiber tripods for most of his photography. For carrying his gear into the back country, he uses a LowePro Orion AW bag.
